The University of Memphis Center for Information Assurance will host the seventh annual Cyber Security Summit at the FedEx Institute of Technology on Oct. 17 from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in an effort to raise awareness about the importance of cyber security. The theme of the summit will be “Mobile Security, Online Fraud and Insider Threats.”
Rachel Brandon, junior PR major and student worker in the Center for Information Assurance, explained what she hopes attendees would take away from the event.
“What we expect the audience to learn from this event is to understand the importance of cyber security and the dangers of computer hacking,” Brandon said. “It’s definitely something serious.”
According to a press release, prominent industry and government security experts will present the latest innovations in cyber security and offer peer networking and sessions on leading-edge cyber security issues.
Topics include “Bring Your Own Device,” health information security, cloud security, social engineering attacks, the “Internet of Things” and organized cyber crime.
Speakers will include Ben Scribner, program director for Department of Homeland Security, R. Corby Hovis, program director for National Science Foundation, A. Todd McCall, special agent in charge for the FBI, and Richard A. Raines, cyber portfolio manager for Oak Ridge National Laboratory.
