After being banned from the University of Memphis campus on August 25 for reportedly following female students during the Registered Student Organization fair, the ‘Campus Creeper’ has been connected to two additional incidents – both on fraternity row.
Over the weekend, the individual in question was accused of harassing several female students off campus.
According to Trevor Reed, a member of Kappa Alpha fraternity, he was sleeping on the couch inside of the fraternity house when he was awoken by girls yelling, “go away, we’re going to call the cops.”
As he exited the house, the girls informed him that the man was stalking them and drew a heart on their car.
When Reed looked down the street, he saw the man sitting down in front of the Sigma Chi fraternity house before approaching him. According to Reed, he knew the men wasn’t a member of Sigma Chi, and told him to leave because he was trespassing.
“He took off running, I chased him, and luckily I was out of breath by the time I got to him because the cops rolled up,” Reed said.
On Wednesday, Reed was involved in another incident concerning the mysterious man when the individual tried to join an “invite only” volleyball game in the front lawn of the Kappa Alpha fraternity house. Having been previously informed that he had been causing problems on campus, Reed asked him to immediately leave the premises.
Deputy director Derek Myers said campus police do not believe the individual to be a serious threat, and did not send out a Tiger Alert. Police did not make an arrest after Monday’s incident because the man had not actually committed a crime. However, he was banned from campus.
Kappa Alpha President Greg Pratt described the suspect as having short hair, but speculated he may be the same individual that once roamed the area in a trench coat with longer hair.
Campus police urge people who come in contact with the man to immediately call dispatch at 678-4357.
