Crime Log: Nov. 1 - 20

Theft

• On Nov. 1 at 12 p.m., an officer responded to a motor vehicle theft at Southern and Goodman. A student called police to report his 2005 Chevy Equinox had been stolen from University of Memphis parking lot #15. The case is closed due to insufficient evidence.

• On Nov. 6 an officer responded to a theft complaint from the University Center. An employee placed an order with Wasserstrom & Son's for eight pasta plates. The order was placed in the hallway and noticed missing on Oct. 15. The case is still under investigation.

• On Nov. 7 at 3 p.m., an officer responded to a theft call from the Southern Avenue parking lot. A student had parked his 2004 Honda Civic on Lot #15A at 1:30 p.m. and returned to find his window broken and pioneer stereo stolen.

• On Nov. 8 at 4:10 p.m., an officer responded to a theft complaint from the University Center. A student attended a meeting at room 320-C with a briefcase containing an iPad. She left the meeting for a few minutes and returned to discover the iPad missing.

• On Nov 9. an officer responded to a stolen bicycle complaint at Mynders Halls. The student left the bike on a rack near the dormitory and returned to find the bicycle and chain lock missing. The case is closed due to insufficient evidence.

• On Nov. 12 at 2:54 p.m., an officer responded to a theft complaint at Ned R. McWherter Library. A student left his laptop inside his backpack on the third floor of the building while he went to the restroom, and returned to find his computer missing. The case is under investigation.

• On Nov 13 at 9:45 a.m., an officer responded to a theft complaint from the University Bookstore Rawlins Service Court. An employee discovered two open packages that were missing items. The case is being investigated.

• On Nov. 14 an officer responded to a theft complaint from McCord Hall. A student said his debit card was stolen from his wallet that he left in a room while he attended class. The case is still under investigation.

• On Nov. 14 at 9:55 a.m. a student reported that his backpack was missing from the Ned R. McWherter Library. He left his it on a desk and returned to find it stolen. The case is closed due to insufficient evidence.

• On Nov 14 at 11:29 a.m. an officer responded to a theft complaint at the University Center. A student used the computer lab around 10:00 a.m. and returned at 12:40 p.m. to look for a wallet she left inside the lab, but did not find it.

From Nov 1. to Nov 20, there were 17 thefts reported to the Memphis Police Department that occurred within a .75 mile radius of campus.

Vandalism

• On Nov. 6 an officer responded to a vandalism call in 3600 block of Southern Ave. The victim parked in lot #15A near the tennis courts facing Echles Street around 9:00 a.m. At 2 p.m., she came back to the lot to move her truck closer to her next class and saw that the passenger door was open with the lock punched out. A Nike shoebox in the backseat was open, but nothing was taken. The case is still under investigation.

From Nov. 1 to Nov. 20, there was one vandalism case reported to the Memphis Police Department that occurred within a .75 mile radius of campus.

Trespassing

• On Nov. 5 two men were loitering on the second floor balcony of the Psychology Building, according to police. When questioned by officers they said they were not students but were there to pick up a girlfriend. One had a previous charge from February 2011 regarding domestic violence. He was taken into custody and the other was released.

Harassment

• On Nov 2. at 11:37 a.m., an officer responded to a walk-in call at 505 Zach Curlin. The victim reported to being threatened by a man while writing parking tickets. The case is still under investigation.

Burglary

• On Nov. 2 at 6 p.m., an officer responded to a burglary call from the University Center. The victim reported that he left his brown jacket inside UC office #216C at 10 a.m. and returned around 5:40 p.m. to find the jacket missing.

• On Nov. 5 at 10:25 a.m., an officer responded to a burglary call at 530 Patterson. The victim left her office unattended for a few minutes around 8:10 a.m. and when she returned she discovered the contents of her wallet were missing. The case is closed due to insufficient evidence.

• On Nov 14 an officer responded to a burglary complaint at the baseball complex. A resident said a TV was stolen from his room sometime between Nov. 8 and Nov. 14.

From Nov 1. to Nov 20, there were four burglary cases reported to the Memphis Police Department that occurred within a .75 mile radius of campus.

Fraud

• On Nov. 2 an officer responded to a theft complaint from Wilder tower. A student reported his debit card missing on Oct. 9 and had checked his card balance to discover it had been used several times without his authorization.

• On Nov. 9 a student reported fraudulent use of his campus ID card. The student said he had his card re-issued and noticed $50 missing from his account. He learned his card was used 29 times at Richardson Towers and he did not authorize any of these transactions. The case is still under investigation.
