The chair of the department of Mathematical Sciences, James Jamison collapsed Thursday evening from an apparent heart attack in the weight room of the campus recreation center.
According to Brad Heacox, the facility supervisor, the 66-year-old chair had just turned off his cell phone when he fell.
"He stopped breathing," Heacox said. "We had to use the AD (automatic electronic defibrillator) machine on him. I don't know if it was a full heart attack."
By the time campus police arrived at the recreation center at 5:44 p.m., Jamison was resuscitated. Police said he was taken to Baptist East by ambulance at 6 p.m..
At press time, a hospital operator said Jamison was in the emergency room.
Heacox said Jamison works out almost everyday at the recreation center.
