Less than a day before the 2007 Student Government Association's election polls were set to close, the dominant parties, SGAgency and M.A.D., headed to court.
The two parties voiced a number of grievances, both formal and informal, in front of the election commission Wednesday at a meeting in the Panhellenic Building.
M.A.D. filed two grievances against the SGAgency party - the first dealing with whether the name "SGAgency" gives the party an unfair advantage.
SGA election rules state no campaign materials can show candidates "as having the sponsorship of the SGA."
The second grievance M.A.D. filed against SGAgency deals with Gionni Carr announcing his campaign for SGA president before filing paperwork, which is against the election rules.
Though SGAgency has not filed any formal grievances, much of the campaign advertisements that M.A.D. candidates have put on lamps and trees are against University policy, according to Dean of Students William Porter.
A M.A.D. advertisement was also spray painted on the white wall outside of The University Center on Monday, but was painted over by Wednesday.
Though SGA passed a bill earlier in the year allowing registered student organizations to decorate five-feet of the wall, Porter said the spray paint did not comply with University policy.
The hearing, itself, actually violated an election rule that requires the commission chairperson to notify The Daily Helmsman two publication days prior to the intended meeting date.
