'Sping Fever' hits Memphis

Spring fever is rampant at The University of Memphis. The snow has melted, the cold air is gone and the only thing on the minds of students is finding that special someone to share the warm with.

"It is really nice to have a boyfriend," said Rinnie Jones, freshman theatre and communication major. "I have a boyfriend, and it is really nice. You can meet-up after your classes, talk and hangout."

Many students welcome the opportunity to get out and enjoy the weather and the company of their companions.

"Everybody wants to find someone, nobody wants to be lonely," said Marie Reid undecided sophomore. "I want a special person to go to the park with and have a picnic.

Krystal Stanback, freshman chemistry major, knows exactly what kind of man she is looking for, but is having trouble finding him.

"I am looking for an intellectual man who thinks about things differently," she said. "I love to cuddle and snuggle with my boyfriend.

Cortez Moss, junior finance major, is having a similar problem.

"Girls don't notice the nice, quiet guy," Moss said. "I'm looking for a smart, nice-looking lady that is real."

While some students feel the need to skip class because of the nice weather, William Terrell said he takes advantage of the heat.

"You get to see people that you haven't seen since the winter," said William Terrell sophomore journalism major. "The people that you are used to seeing are wearing a lot less and showing a whole lot more. Springtime is definitely the best time to go to class."

Erica Landry, sophomore psychology major, said although she is not looking for a boyfriend, she is keeping her eyes open.

"I am noticing a lot more people outside," Landry said. "The girls are dressing nicer and the boys are definitely trying to holla. The boys are also getting very touchy-feely. I think it have more to do with the way the girls are dressing."

During the winter, everyone is so restricted with all the coats, scarves and sweaters. Now the weather is getting hotter and people are able to see what they have been missing for the past few months.

"I am noticing the ladies a lot more now," said Will Banks freshman finance major. "I see them in their short shorts, short skirts and halter tops and I notice the skin."

Some students do not see the point of getting a girlfriend or a boyfriend for the springtime, but they do enjoy the chance to notice the opposite sex.

"I don't see the need to hook-up with a female, because both of us are about to get out of school for the summer," said Taylor Bradford, sophomore marketing management major. "But it is nice to see the ladies enjoying the warm weather."

Not only are the students feeling spring fever, but also employees and administrators can be seen pairing up.

"Spring fever is everyday of the year for me because I'm married and I love my wife more than anything," said Colton Turner, assistant coordinator for student activities.
