The Box Office Report

THINK PINK: Hollywood usually trucks in the treacle for Valentine's weekend, but in this love-free year the closest it got was a bunch of guys doing Pepe Le Pew accents. That was just enough to propel "The Pink Panther" into the top slot and cement Steve Martin's spot as Tinseltown's top family-friendly hero.

THE UP SIDE: Really, nothing says love like the third installment of a horror-flick franchise, right? "Final Destination 3" was apparently the date movie of choice, falling just a hair short of the weekend's No. 1 after leading on opening day. And this had easily the best debut numbers in the "Destination" trilogy.

BOMB SQUAD: "Something New" has proved to be old hat at the box office. In its second weekend, the inter-racial romance sunk out of the top 10, averaging just $1,780 per screen. Despite warm reviews, this cold reception means a quick departure.

SWAMI SEZ: Yeah, yeah, so America loves French cheese. You want fries with that?

Last week's prediction: An $18 million No. 1 trip for "Final Destination 3." Result: Not quite on top, but a solid $19 mil.

Prediction: Steve Martin's fromage would arrive a little stinky with $11 mil at No. 4. Result: Perhaps the Swami is the one with the odeur. A $20 million champ.

Total so far: 24 out of 40 (60 percent).

PUPPY LOVE: In a weak week, call this the dog days of winter. Swami sez: Olympic fever and snowy weather produce a surprise canine champ in "Eight Below" at $13 mil.

EARNEST GOES TO CAMP: The big names and big ambitions belong to "Freedomland." Swami sez: But not the big bucks. $10 mil at No. 4.
