Police Beat: January 19

Friday, Dec. 16, 2005

1:23 a.m.

Police responded to a robbery call at Richardson Towers. A female student told police that she was approached by a male outside of Richardson Towers near the men's laundry room. She said the man walked towards her and grabbed her left side where her purse was strapped around her shoulder and pushed her to the ground. Estimated loss was $325.

Friday, Dec. 16

2:49 a.m.

Police observed a red four-door Volkswagen Passat on the east curb of Zach Curlin just north of Walker Avenue. The vehicle had struck a street sign and a tree. Nebojsa Peric complained of chest and pelvic pain and police requested an ambulance. Andre Pop told police that he had been drinking and performed poorly on his field sobriety test.

Friday, Dec. 16

2:48 p.m.

Police responded to a report that a wanted person had been spotted by a student near the Administration Building. Annette Brown flagged police down near the Administration Building and told police that a man walked right by her that she recognized from the America's Most Wanted television program. Police put out a dispatch that Peter Braunstein, who was wanted in New York State, was possibly in the area. Police later spotted Braunstein near Patterson and yelled for him to stop. Braunstein turned and attempted to pull out a shiny metal object with a black handle from his pocket. Police identified the item as a large double-edged dagger. Police ordered Braunstein to drop the knife before he stabbed himself in the right side of his neck. Braunstein was subdued and transported to the Med.

Sunday, Dec.18

1:33 a.m.

Police responded to a purse snatching call at Richardson Towers. Edgleide Elenes told police that she was walking to Richardson Towers when a man ran and snatched her purse.

Estimated loss was $100.

Monday, Dec. 19

3:25 p.m.

Cory Hawley reported to police that someone took his trombone from the locker room in the Theater and Communication building. Estimated loss was $475.

Wednesday, Dec. 21

7:17 a.m.

Robert Roby reported to police that someone stole his wallet from his sweatshirt while he was at step practice in the Fieldhouse. Estimated loss was $180.

Monday, Dec. 26

8:49 a.m.

Richard Walker reported to police that when he arrived at work he observed the toolbox on the back of his work truck open and some tools missing. Estimated loss was $1,050.
