Tennessee hires Luke from Ole Miss

KNOXVILLE - Former Mississippi assistant Matt Luke has been hired at Tennessee as the tight ends and assistant offensive line coach, school officials announced Thursday.

Luke succeeds Greg Adkins, who was promoted this week to head offensive line coach.

Luke rejoins offensive coordinator David Cutcliffe, the former Ole Miss head coach who returned to Tennessee earlier this week as part of a big shuffle in coach Phillip Fulmer's offensive staff.

Fulmer still has the receivers coach position left to fill.

"I am pleased to have Matt join us," Fulmer said. "He is a fine coach, an excellent recruiter and brings a lot of enthusiasm to our staff."

Luke, 29, was retained on the Ole Miss staff by new coach Ed Orgeron last season and also served as the recruiting coordinator.

"I'm really, really excited about working with Coach Fulmer," Luke said. "I played offensive line and coach Fulmer is widely known as one of the top O-line coaches in the country. He's a great head coach and I'm excited about what I will learn from him and what I can offer the Tennessee program."

Luke played center at Ole Miss and remained at the school as a student assistant under Cutcliffe in 1999. He left to coach the offensive line at Murray State from 2000-01 and returned to Ole Miss the following year.

"There's not a finer man in the profession than coach Cutcliffe," Luke said. "He has been a tremendous influence on my life and my coaching career. I'm looking forward not only to learning from him, but being around him again. We're going to get this thing going and win SEC championships."
