Police Beat: November 17

Saturday, Nov. 5

1:14 p.m.

Police responded to a theft call from Rawls Hall. Emily Malinowski told police that she placed her laundry in the dryer in the laundry room and left. When she returned she found it missing. Estimated loss was $570.

Sunday, Nov. 6

12:48 p.m.

Police responded to a vehicle theft call from the South lot. Ashley Smith told police that she parked her vehicle at 8:45 a.m. and returned at 12:30 p.m. to find that someone had shattered the passenger side window and stolen some personal property. While in the South lot, police received another theft call from the area. Mary Tyus told police that she parked her vehicle on the South lot near the Print Shop at 8:50 a.m. When she returned at 2:10 p.m. she found that her passenger side window was broken and her CDs were stolen. Estimated loss was $1,565.

Wednesday, Nov. 9

1 p.m.

Jessica Gist reported to police that she parked her car in the Richardson Towers lot at 10:30 p.m. on Nov. 8. When she returned Nov. 9, her passenger side door glass was broken out and her CD player was stolen. Estimated loss was $109.

Wednesday Nov. 9

Parking Services' employee Mary Allen reported to police that she requested Darrick Wilhite move his car from the curb on the east side of State Street just north of DeSoto Avenue. Allen stated that Wilhite cursed at her. When police responded, they arrested Wilhite for DUI, public intoxication, violation of registration, child endangerment-drunken driving, open container law and refusal to submit to a blood alcohol test. Wilhite was transporting two children, ages 5 and 9, at the time.

Thursday, Nov. 10

3:31 p.m.

Susan Popham stated that, after an audit, a Dell laptop computer was discovered missing from a cabinet in Patterson Hall. Estimated loss was $1,665.

Sunday, Nov. 13

2 p.m.

Gregory Williams was placed on University trespass status on Nov. 12 and told not to return. Police responded to a complaint that Williams had checked into Mynders Hall at 2 p.m. on Nov. 13. Police discovered Williams in room 118. Williams was taken into custody and charged with criminal trespass.

Sunday, Nov. 13

Ashley Brown reported to police that someone was breaking into vehicles in the Richardson Towers parking lot. Police responded and found a vehicle with a broken passenger window and the vehicle's CD player had been stolen. Estimated loss was $130.

Monday, Nov. 14

Leah Parish reported to police that she left her purse in the women's restroom in the Communication and Fine Arts building. When she returned five minutes later, the purse had been stolen. Estimated loss was $182.

Monday, Nov. 14

Police responded to a theft building from the music building. Phillip Davidson told police that his soprano saxophone was stolen from a practice room on the second floor between 6:36 p.m. and 6:45 p.m. Estimated loss was $3,500.

Monday, Nov. 14

11:37 p.m.

Police responded to a trespassing call at Carpenter Complex after Latoya Simmons was seen on campus after she was placed on trespass status with campus police. Simmons was issued a misdemeanor citation and asked to leave the property.

Tuesday, Nov. 15

8:15 a.m.

Christen Dickerson reported to police that she left her purse in the Panhellenic building overnight. When she returned, she noticed that some money had been taken. Estimated loss was $100.

Travias Pitts reported to police that his book bag was stolen while he was attending class in the Faulkner Lounge. Pitts said his bag contained several books and his notebook. Estimated loss was $300.
