1. The University was founded in 1909 and was originally called the West Tennessee State Normal School.
2. In 1994 Memphis State University changed its name to The University of Memphis.

4. Our audiology program is ranked 8th and speech-language pathology is ranked 13th in the nation by U.S. News and World Report.
5. Tiger basketball has produced three of the last four Conference USA Freshman of the Year award recipients (2002, 2004, 2005).
6. 412 new University of Memphis freshmen attended Frosh Camp in 2005. This is the largest number of students since the program began in 1994.
7. During the 2004-05 academic year, campus Greek organizations contributed 5,882 hours of community service.
