Police Beat: October 13

Friday, Sept. 30

9:30 a.m.

Jessica Brown reported to police that she entered The University Bookstore to shop after leaving her book bag in the lobby. She exited 15 minutes later at 9:30 a.m. to find her book bag had been stolen. Estimated loss was $520.

Friday, Sept. 30

10:35 a.m.

Police responded to a vandalism call at the Central Avenue parking lot. A student told police that between 7:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m., someone scratched the driver side door of his 2001 Saturn SC1. Estimated damage was $75.

Saturday, Oct. 1

3:45 a.m.

Police observed a vehicle with a flat tire crossing over the center lane repeatedly on Park Avenue. The driver, David Oseguera, was pulled over and charged with DUI, reckless driving, refusal to submit to a blood alcohol content test and violation of open container laws. He was then transported to 201 Poplar Ave.

Sunday, Oct. 2

Police observed a vehicle run a stop sign at Walker and Patterson. Police stopped the vehicle on Zach Curlin. The driver, Grady Hollis, had a strong smell of alcohol, slurred speech and was unsteady on his feet. A blood alcohol content test was given to Hollis and he was arrested and charged with DUI and transported to 201 Poplar Ave.

Monday, Oct. 3

5:25 a.m.

Police observed a Chevrolet S10 pickup make a U-turn at Patterson and Walker. Police followed the vehicle and observed the vehicle swerving several times. Police stopped the vehicle at Highland and Midland.

Upon questioning, the driver had no license, a strong odor of alcohol, bloodshot eyes and was unable to stand without assistance. The driver was unable to be identified and was charged with DUI, reckless driving, opposing traffic, no driver's license and refusal to submit to a blood alcohol content test. The driver was then transported to 201 Poplar Ave.
