Spring is here, and the theme is "Live in Color" -- bright color. From tops to bottoms, coral and turquoise make a big appearance this season. But last year's pinks and yellows have not been forgotten, just altered. Instead of the soft, pale pinks of last year, this year's pinks are vibrant, showing more of a bubble gum and fluorescent color.
The yellows have had a face lift as well, lending themselves toward sunshine and ultra violet colors.
Miki Brugge, owner of Sachi, said sparkle and shimmer are big for spring.
"There's lots of shimmer and shine," she said.
Some stores, like Bebe, are bringing back the classic look of lace. Not only in the trim, but in the entire make-up of the apparel. Lace is all over this spring covering entire shirts and blouses, as well as accenting pants and skirts. The lace look is giving this season a bit of sex appeal while providing a touch of class.
However, for those looking for something a little more daring, metallic has made a comeback. In all colors, the metallic look is sure to grab attention and make you stand out from the crowd. Ranging from the slightly subtle brown to the eye-catching turquoise, metallics are the sure way to make a statement.
Once again, the dainty and feminine athletic look is available. With stores like Aeropostale, those seeking comfort can do so and remain current with the changing trends. Although the style and cut of the clothes haven't changed much the colors are fresh. Women can look forward to the continuation of drawstring shorts, skirts and pants. Polos, baby tees and off-the-shoulder tees will continue to be present as well.
Express and some other lines this spring feature a theme called "Boho," which is a blended style of Bohemian and Soho.
Sachi owner Brugge also is seeing the Boho look, characterized by peasant blouses, tunics and embroidered flowing skirts.
The main difference in apparel for Express this season is the cut of the pants. Maintaining the classic approach to style, Express is veering away from the flared look of many of its pants and moving toward a more tailored and tapered appearance. The rise of the pant is becoming higher, instead of last year's greatly popular low-rise. In addition, Express pants will be more form fitting this season, great for women trying to accentuate or create curves.
For those who invested great amounts of money in last year's pleated skirt, don't worry -- this spring pleats will return. However, the pleated skirt will receive a small change. No longer is it the look to have a cheerleader-like pleat. The trend has moved more toward softer, less abrasive pleats. Pleats will be found in skirts ranging from denim to silk, double-pleated and single-pleated.
Also returning once again is the Capri pant. However, capris will not be as short as they have traditionally been. Not only in denim and khaki, capris will continue to be found as parts of suits. Capris this year are a bit longer with less of a flare. Tapering to the leg, the Capri is continuing to give a look of sophistication, while allowing women to live a little on the edge.
The more rugged, wash-and-wear woman will not be left out either this spring. Stores like American Eagle have decided to continue providing for those women who like low maintenance clothing that fits into the fashion trends. The basic changes being made in these stores is the color. Instead of simply supplying earth-toned clothing, these stores have decided to follow the trend of living in color and have introduced the hot pinks, corals, bright blues and yellows to their color scheme. Women on the go who are looking for comfort can do so while making sure to be in line with the rest of the fashion world.
