Memphis police investigate 4 killings over weekend

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) - A 51-year-old woman found dead in her residence was one of four homicide victims killed over the weekend in unrelated incidents, police said Monday.

Marilyn Woods was found dead about 12:30 a.m. Saturday. Relatives who had not been able to contact her by phone found the body, police Sgt. Vince Higgins said.

Police were investigating the death as a murder but declined to discuss a motive or how Woods was killed.

"We don't want the person responsible to know that we know what he used and how he did it," Higgins said Monday.

Woods apparently did not know her killer, he said.

Police also were investigating the death of Gabriel Calvin Taylor, 33, who was shot about 11 p.m. Friday. The shooting apparently resulted from domestic dispute, police said.

Byron Antonio Castro, 30, was shot to death about 10 p.m. Saturday during a fight with three men outside a convenience store, police said.

Steven Tracy Cowans, 13, was fatally wounded about 12:15 a.m. Saturday after a fight with another teenager. Police said a 17-year-old was in custody for questioning.
