Students and faculty of McCord Hall fought cold temperatures indoors Monday.
"We've have this problem all the time in this building," said faculty member Linda Davis as she huddled around her space heater.
Space heaters are popular appliances in McCord Hall, whose occupants have even gone as far as to Duct Tape vents in the ceiling to keep the cold air out.
The third floor of McCord Hall saw the most intolerable conditions. Graduate student Dorcas Young worked wearing her coat and scarf and hoped for the heat to come.
"They need to fix it," Young said. "I have class tonight (in McCord) and the temperature is supposed to drop."
With temperatures expected to be in the 30s Monday night, heat is expected to become more and more of a problem.
"We had to let some researchers go because of the cold weather," Davis said. "They simply cannot work with any heat in their office."Davis said the department called the Physical Plant, and they were told the problem was due to a steam leak, though they could not say when the problem would be fixed.
"The heat has been off and on since before Christmas," Davis said. The Daily Helmsman was unable to reach Physical Plant officials for comment.
"If someone would come and fix the heat we would just love it," Davis said.
