Memphis came into the final round in a familiar position: in second place, two strokes behind the University of Miami (Ohio). They finished in just as familiar a position, well ahead of all other contenders.The Tigers won the Missouri Bluffs Classic by nine strokes, shooting a scorching 11-under-par 271 in Tuesday's final round to defeat Miami by nine strokes.
All four Tigers shot par or better in the decisive round, turning a dreary day on the course into a pleasant experience.
"We played extremely well today. They guys had a lot of energy and it was fun to watch," Memphis coach Grant Robbins said in a released statement. "The rain made the course play longer and the greens softer, so the players were able to go right at them."
The Tigers, ranked No. 16 in the country by Golfweek, won a school-record third consecutive tournament. It broke the old record of two straight, set back in 1990.
Freshman Andy Shiels became the third different winner of individual honors in the three tournaments. Keven Fortin-Simard and Allan Thomas took honors in the first two tournaments, respectively.
Shiels shot an 8-under-par 205, including a final round 65 to win. Thomas, Fortin-Simard and Justin Miers also finished in the top 10 for Memphis.
Memphis looks to sweep its fall tournament schedule at the Landfall Tradition in Wilmington, N.C. The tournament will be held Oct. 29-31.

he men's golf program will be featured on College Central, The Golf Channel's weekly show dedicated to collegiate golf. The program airs this evening at 7:30 p.m. and will feature footage shot at the Memphis Intercollegiate and from around campus and the city. College Central is a weekly 30-minute show dedicated to men's and women's golf, including scores and other news. Each week it highlights a program from around the country.
The show is repeated at various times on Thursdays and Fridays.The Golf Channel is available through Time Warner Cable and most satellite systems.
