SAC searches for new committee chairperson

The search is on for the next Student Activities Councilentertainment committee chairperson and SAC executive board membershope to have a new face in the office by next week.

SAC has been searching for a new entertainment chairperson sinceAlex Shipman stepped down after accepting a position on a campaignstaff. Aletra Cobb, vice-president of programming for SAC, isserving as the interim entertainment chair until the position isfilled.

"I have been contacting (entertainment) committee members ande-mailing them to see if they are still interested," said Cobb.

The first meeting for the entertainment committee will be heldWednesday at the University Center in room 218.

The entertainment chair is responsible for musical and comicalevents on campus. Last year, the entertainment committee organizedthe concerts of Michelle Branch and India Arie.

Student Activities Coordinator Angie Dunlap believes thatstudents applying for this chair position should understand that itis more to the job than planning concerts. The entertainment chairmust work ten office hours a week, lead the entertainment committeeand attend meetings and conferences in order to plan events.

"It's a lot of work, but the amount of benefit you get out of itis worth the effort," Dunlap said.

Applications are available for anyone interested in becoming thenext entertainment chair. They do not have to be members of SAC,but they must have a 2.25 grade point average, have proven or haveleadership potential, and have a satisfactory judicial affairsrecord. The applications are due Wednesday.

Applicants will go through the normal procedure of theappointment of SAC chairpersons except they will be interviewed bycurrent board members instead of outgoing board members.

Dunlap is hoping the SAC board will have come to a decision onthe next chair by Friday.

Students seem to be pleased with the entertainment SAC has puton in previous years.

"Entertainment, in general, is pretty good. Plus, they do notcharge us much," said Gina Miller, a senior biology major.

"I never stick around long enough. It's like after classes I'mgone. But, the events I have gone to were pretty good," said JeffKrause, a sophomore electrical engineering major.

The first entertainment event of the year will be Second City,an improvisation group. Cobb is taking care of the finaldetails.
