No one wants to hear that fame can be a pain. No hard-workingperson wants to boo hoo for someone who gets paid millions forpretending to be someone else or playing their favorite sport.
Ricky Williams, ex-star running back for the Miami Dolphins, isretiring after only five years in the NFL, telling an ESPN reporterthat the rock star life isn't for him.
While most of his fans and teammates are probably angry withhim, I'm trying to figure out if this man is extremely courageousor just really lazy.
Although I don't see anyone running out to start a support groupfor the rich, famous and popular, I do see how Ricky could say whathe said.
When you are rich and famous, everyone wants a piece of you. Youare constantly busy with press conferences, photo shoots, interviews, and then there's your work.
However, the plus side is when you take a vacation, you can flyyour private jet to the most exclusive resort in the world and getVIP treatment for however long you desire.
But you'll probably be there with someone who you're not sureloves you for you or for what you can do for them.
You'll have to work out everyday and declare war against carbsto maintain the figure everyone is so in love with, not to mentionthe covert trips to the clinic for Botox injections because no onewants to see you age like the rest of us.
I'm not sure if I could handle that life.
On one hand, I am addicted to retail and love my Louis Vuittonpurses and BCBG shoes more than I should. I love to travel all overthe world and experience the best life has to offer.
So a high profile job at Vogue or Cosmopolitan would be fabulousand would be the only way I could afford all that.
But I also love down time. I like to relax and be myself. Idon't want to be on the go and dressed up all the time. But a smalltown job and small town life wouldn't quite do it for me.
Could you date a rock star?
What if you're not famous and they are? You would have to sharethem with agents, managers, other stars, groupies and more. Youwould have to watch them live the rock star lifestyle with peopleyou may not approve of. The only way to survive may be to live thattype of lifestyle, too.
One thing is for sure, you will have to be very secure withyourself and your relationship. The nature of stardom is thateveryone wants to be with you. So in dating a rock star you wouldhave more competition than you've ever dealt with.
I love a little healthy competition. But this kind doesn't seemtoo healthy.
It's almost as if by dating a rock star you have to be able tohandle all the demands of being one.
But then again, if George Clooney shows up on my doorstep, Idoubt there will be much thought involved.
