Today is the last day of classes, and many University of Memphisstudents are looking forward to taking a break this summer.
"I'm looking forward to graduation," said Shay Murphy, seniorcommunications major. "I am looking forward to starting my careerand moving on with my life."
For many graduating seniors, this summer break represents theend of a four-, five- or even six-year quest for a degree. Forothers, the summer break means time to catch up with more personalmatters.
"I'm looking forward to relaxing and enjoying time with familyand my animals," said Mary Powell. "You really don't have time foryourself during the semester because you have so much to do at onetime."
Others plan to spend time with that special someone they haven'tseen for a while.
"I looking forward to seeing my boyfriend," said Brenda Stewart,junior marketing major. "He goes to school in Knoxville, so wedon't get that much time to see each other."
Students like Karima Robinson look forward to the 100 percentreduction in classes and homework.
"I am tired of work, and I need a break from it," she said.
Senior English major Kenneth Hill said he feels good not to getup early in the morning to go to class.
Other students plan to use summer break to travel, like freshmanmass communication major Michael Lofties, who is looking forward totraveling to several places this summer.
"Florida, Georgia and New York are some of the place I will bevisiting this summer," said Lofties.
Well, we know this semester, like all other semesters, brings usone step closer to getting that wonderful piece of paper we alldesire. Whatever you do this summer, we hope you have fun and mostof all be safe.
For many, this is only the calm before the storm. Summer schoolstarts in about a month, so that is where many will spend theirsummer.
