Mr. MacDonald makes a valid point in his piece (April 8, TheCampus Rave); prejudice is more about stupidity than hate. But heseems to have missed the larger picture as to why the discussedletters to the editor were written. Prejudices do stem from aperson's, to quote MacDonald, "stupidity," but it's that"stupidity" that leads to hate.
I agree that sometimes people cry wolf when in all reality itwas just a dog. But then again, can we ignore that cry because wedon't agree with its urgency?
I commend both Paris and Hill (letter authors) for bringingthese issues into focus. We live in a country of false premises andconstrued intentions, and I believe we should praise thefreethinkers who free our minds of constraints.
As for the comment on Professor Connolly's motives in removingthe BGALA banners from the UC, I ask you, Mr. MacDonald, to referback to his comments in the March 31 Helmsman; that's your proof ofmotive. How would you feel if someone said you and the discussionsabout the inequalities you experience are inappropriate? Then Iwould ask you, am I, as a gay man, supposed to go back into thecloset it took me so long to get out of just because someone saysthe discussion of that struggle is inappropriate? Ponder that forme, and then ask yourself one more question, can't some dogs bedangerous if they are not leashed?
