Looking hot, keeping cool

Feeling comfortable and cool this summer seems to be the idealway to strut your stuff in front of the sun. In the midst of ascorching summer afternoon, staying lightweight, calm andcomfortable will have a lot to do with the kind of clothes youchoose.

Unlike spring, summer clothing can demand a nice view of yourskin and at the same time mercilessly drench the very clothes youhave on.

"You just want breathable fabrics," said Jamie Simpson, asalesperson at an upscale contemporary store.

Ultra-feminine fabrics are also leading in the pursuit to keepcool, said Stimpson. The thinner the better (as it applies toclothes) is what makes summer a happy-go-lucky season. Linen blendsin colorful sets and silk blends are great fabrics to have in yourcloset for the warmer days. Printed cotton pants and twilledmaterials are highly fashionable, cool and comfortable, saidStimpson.

Material that flows, such as chiffon, makes a good material forgirly dresses, said Laura Miller, a fashion expert and storemanager. Ombre print, similar to the 1970s tie-dyed, is verypopular in contemporary clothing now, said Miller. Embroideredfabrics make for a nice, refined look when interchanged with chicaccessories, Miller said. Lightweight, tiered layer skirts inchiffon are also what is happening in women's summer fashion,Miller said.

Terrycloth, a fabric similar to the look of a bath towel, isgoing to be popular for the summer months among guys and gals, saidMarcus Jackson, a retail salesperson. This brushed cotton materialcomes in fluffy halters, spongy shorts, jackets and hats. It is avery absorbent material, which will aid in keeping cool, saidJackson.

Denim, of course, won't lose its reputation this summer.Dazzling denim colors are highly visible in the retail market,Miller said.

Year-round denim is a "forever" fabric. Denim shorts, croppedpants and skirts are sure to be among some favorites with collegestudents this summer.

"I think denim is a classic fabric that works well with almostanything," said Erica Johnson, a senior political sciencemajor.

Although denim tends to be made a bit thinner in the summer thanin the winter, it still holds the same valuable look, Millersaid.

Bright cotton T-shirts make a wonderful accessory to just aboutany bottom garmet for guys, said Jackson.

"You want to keep a variety," said Jackson about men'sclothing.
