Written in response to "Give the moral decency bit a rest" inthe March 17 Helmsman. Whether you like it or not, we needmorality. Imagine a government or country based on relativism. Hmmm... there would be no justice system -- no way to keep order; anational culture/identity could not begin to take shape, unlessyou'll allow complete and utter chaos as an acceptable justicesystem or identity. The problem with having no standard, no whereto draw the line, is that there would be nothing to change thechannel to.
Oh yeah, I almost forgot, the First Amendment was never intendedto let you say whatever whenever. The First Amendment exists toallow us, the citizenry, to form and keep our own opinions and helpthe country by criticizing and questioning. The First Amendmentprotects intelligent thought and speech. Nudity, indecency, profanity and obscenity are not intelligent. Why can't people stopthrowing around the First Amendment like we're playing battle ball?Booze it and lose it.
The foundation for this debate, the underlying theme, is thedefinition of life. Ms. Myers, you have let everybody know what youthink, so here is what I know: We were meant to live for so muchmore than indecency. It is no chance and no mistake you were born.We were created for more than causal sex, divorce, alcohol, money, partying, selfishness, drugs and sports. We were fearfully andwonderfully made to have life -- have it abundantly. You werepurposefully created for a relationship with the only Living God --a relationship made possible through the death and resurrection ofJesus Christ, and only through Him can we begin to comprehend ourmeaning and truly live. And yes, I said Jesus. And I meant it.
