CNN Anchor Anderson Cooper will be on The University of Memphiscampus Tuesday, March 30 ,for The University of Memphis chapter ofthe Society of Professional Journalists Annual Freedom ofInformation Congress.
The congress celebrates the Freedom of Information Act, whichallows American citizens, including journalists access to importantpublic information.
Cooper, of CNN's Anderson Cooper 360�, was also a warcorrespondent for Channel One News. The nationally-syndicatedstudent-produced news program that airs in high schools across thecountry.
Cooper will talk to students about his experiences as a warcorrespondent and news anchor, said Blair Dedrick, FOI chairperson.He will also share his experiences filing FOI requests during hiscareer as a journalist, Dedrick said.
While at The U of M, Cooper will co-anchor a U of M newsbroadcast with broadcast journalism majors.
Cooper will speak at the Michael D. Rose Theater at 7 p.m.Tuesday. Following his speech will be an hour-long question andanswer session with audience members, she said.
The event is free and open to the public.
