Antonio Burks was named the Conference USA Player of the YearWednesday in Cincinnati, site of the 2004 Kelly Tires ConferenceUSA Men's Basketball Tournament.
Memphis' senior point guard is the first player in Tiger historyto win the award.
Burks, who was named First Team All-Conference USA earlier thisweek, is averaging 16.5 points, 5.3 assists and 2.5 steals pergame.
He also leads the conference in steals.
Burks needs seven points to become the fourth player in Memphishistory to score 1,000 points, dish out 450 assists and collect 170steals.
The Booker T. Washington grad is a finalist for the Bob CousyAward and is the first Tiger to win a player of the year awardsince Anfernee Hardaway in 1992 and '93.
Burks was chosen over Travis Diener of Marquette, FranciscoGarcia of Louisville and Curtis Withers of Charlotte.
Mike Anderson, UAB's head coach, was named Coach of the Year forC-USA.
In his second season at UAB, Anderson led the Blazers to a 19-8record, including a share of the C-USA regular seasonchampionship.
