Often it starts with a glance from across the room, then a smallwave and finally someone beckons you to swing their way.
Flirting, whether it's a wink of the eye, warm smile or gentletouch, can bring pleasure or pain.
Women and men on campus shared their different approaches toflirting.
The best approach to get someone's attention is to give praise, said education major Jessica Grayson.
"Complimenting a person on how he looks or a slight brush of thehand can be a way of flirting or letting someone know you areinterested," Grayson said. "I am straight forward. If I see someoneI am attracted to I will let him know he is handsome."
Women are often impressed when a man knows or takes the time toobserve their fragrances and attributes, said senior KennethRhodes.
"Women love it when a man notices things about her," Rhodessaid. "For instance, the type of perfume she has on or if she justgot her hair cut or done. Besides giving a woman a compliment, dosmall things for her, like calling her out-of-the-blue, to sayhello or taking her out when both of you have absolutely nothing todo."
So what happens when the line between coming on to someone toostrong or just right is blurred?
"Flirting can lead to a real relationship, while coming on tosomeone too strong can lead to something sexual," junior ToniReeves said. "Some men don't like when a woman comes on too strongbecause usually they don't normally make that type of woman theirwoman."
Flirting is perfected by age, as people get older, they are moreaware of their desires, said senior Darrion Estes.
Younger people are more into a person's physical appearance, andusually talk about sex in conversations. Older people are moremature and flirt based a person's self-worth, said Estes.
"If you are looking for a true woman, then you have to be a truegentleman," Estes said. "And if you just want to play games, flirtwith those who like being played.
No matter how good someone is at catching amorous attention, rejection is a normal part of flirting.
"I feel like this, rejection doesn't always have to be negative.Rejection can also help," Estes said. "Just change your flirtingstyle and add something new or subtract something old."
