It's a time to give thanks

Thanksgiving is on the horizon and plenty U of M students areskipping class today in order to get a head start on the holiday. Thus, instead of reading this column, many students and faculty arespending the day reading road signs.

Every year on the fourth Wednesday of November, The Universityof Memphis campus looks less like a construction site and more likea ghost town.

Today is one of the rare occasions that there are no thieves toblame for all the empty parking spaces on campus.

Anticipating traditional low attendance, many teachers havecanceled class on this Wednesday before Thanksgiving. Others willgive extra credit to those students that show up.

While I do not have extra credit to give out, I do have aspecial holiday column written just for you and everyone else whochose to visit the 38152 zip code today.

Here are a few things I will be giving thanks for thisThanksgiving:

I am thankful that DeAngelo Williams was healthy for the first10 1/2 football games this season.

I am thankful that, for the second week in a row, there will beanother opportunity for Tiger fans to pull a two sport doubleheader. On Saturday, the football team plays a matinee game at 1p.m. against South Florida at Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium. Thenat 7 p.m., the basketball team plays Austin Peay at the pointedhouse downtown.

I am thankful for such useful websites like RateMyProfessors.comand ProfessorPerformance.com. Those two sites are almost asimportant to the class registration process as TigerWeb.

I am thankful that no other intersection in Memphis is ascomplicated as the stop sign madness found at the infamousSouthern/Patterson/Walkr junction.

I am thankful that no fat person has tried to sit on me or eatme ... yet.

I am thankful that my tuition dollars were finally invested insomething worthwhile. The money used for the very nice FedExInstitute of Technology could have been used to build anotherfoundation or clock tower, but instead we got a state-of-the-artresearch establishment. Not to mention, the people who attended thebuilding's grand opening got free mini-BBQ sandwiches.

I am thankful that classes are just one week from ending.

But most importantly, I am thankful that this week's column isjust one line away ending.

Now go get your Christmas decorations ready... and GOTIGERS!
