Woman fights addiction and loss of loved one in 'Things'

Have you ever read a book that was so good, it took only a dayor two to finish it?

Well Pearl Cleage's "Some Things I Never Thought I'd Do" wasthat kind of novel.

It is about a woman named Regina Burns, who is either near anervous breakdown or an overdue breakthrough.

With a shattered heart and six months of rehab left she'spresented with a tough decision that involves accepting a temporaryconsulting job in Atlanta, a city where her sordid past lies, butthe job will permit her to rescue her family's home.

Burns decides not to avoid Atlanta and to confront hercomplicated past, where she is reminded of her fiance's death inthe World Trade Center attack and of the toll of her past drugaddiction has taken on her family and friends.

In Atlanta she also deals with her employer, Beth Davis, whocanceled Burns' wedding plans on New Year's Eve because she didn'tthink Burns was good enough to marry her son.

Going back to Atlanta was a huge risk because the last time whenRegina returned to Atlanta, she lost track of who she was and whatshe wanted.

However, Regina's intuitive Aunt Abbie told her to be on thelookout for a handsome stranger with beautiful blue eyes, who has abone to pick and a promise to keep.

The blue-eyed man will appear on the streets of Atlanta wearinga black cashmere overcoat, a breathe-taking smile and give ahelping hand when Regina need it most.

But between Blue Hamilton (the stranger her aunt referred to)and dealing with Beth, secrets eventually come out that driveRegina's life twisting in surprising new paths.

And these struggles jeopardized her attempt to build a futurewith real-estate developer Hamilton; the man her aunt claims isRegina's soul mate.

Through her tribulations it all worked out for the best becauseshe and Beth finally reconciled, she achieved her goal as ajournalist and found that she can love again.
