University of Memphis staff and faculty members gathered at theRose Theatre Wednesday to celebrate employees for their loyal anddedicated service in the Staff Service Award ceremony.
Administration members honored 140 employees from differentdepartments not only for their good services but also for theirtenure at The U of M. The award categories were divided by lengthof service to The U of M.
In the 10-year service category, 36 employees were honored fordedicating their time and efforts to The University.
Senior Administrative Secretary Nancy Tompkins, one of thehonorees, said being a part of The University community makes herfeel younger and confident in her job.
"I am very happy for the award and happy to be here at TheUniversity," Tompkins said. "It's a satisfying job with a pleasantenvironment."
In the 15-year category, 51 employees were recognized fordedicating their service to The University.
Testing Center Manager Vickie Black, one of the honorees in thiscategory, said being at The University for 15 years has motivatedher in a certain way that can't be taken away - her enjoyment withstudents made her job easier.
"It has been a joy working with students, and that keeps megoing," Black said. "The University helps motive me for theupcoming milestones. My job and the students here arewonderful."
In the 25-year category, 23 employees were honored for theirdedication to The University.
Building Services Coordinator James Jones, an honoree in the25-year category, said his journey here have grown roots and beingat The U of M for so long has planted something that would not beforgotten.
"It's an honor to be recognized, and being rewarded was great,"Jones said. "I plan on continuing here for another 10 years becausethis department and school is exciting."
Many more staff and faculty appreciated by The U of M for theirhard work and long-time service were honored at the ceremony, butnot all could be interviewed.
As the awarded staff gathered in the Rose Theatre to have areception for their accomplishments, most were thrilled to have toopportunity to be recognized.
"It was truly a special day for me, working here for 30 yearsand actually being honored was a pleasure." Systems SupportSpecialist II, Deborah Wooddell said. "I am going to continue towork here and do my best until I think it's time to retire, but notanytime soon."
