Annual U of M Campus Day gives preview of college life for future students

The best way to choose a university is to visit it, according tocollege admissions experts at Kaplan, Inc.

With that in mind, Saturday, Oct. 18, The University of Memphiswill host its annual Campus Day, an event allowing high schoolseniors and their parents to see what The U of M has to offer.

From 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., more than 450 prospective studentsand their parents will be on campus to see if The U of M is theschool for them, said Nicole Cabrere-Buggs, coordinator oforientation and special events.

High school seniors from Memphis and surrounding areas, as wellas from out of state, will have opportunities to visit colleges andschools, take a campus tour and get a general preview of TheUniversity, Cabrere-Buggs said.

Provost Ralph Faudree, Vice President of Student Affairs RosieBingham and Assistant Vice Provost for Enrollment Services BillAkey will be on hand to tell the seniors about The University.

Representatives from student organizations as well as thescholarship, financial aid, admissions, residence life and otheroffices will also be on hand to answer questions and provideinformation about becoming a student at The U of M.

A panel discussion consisting of Student Ambassador Boardmembers will also address questions from parents and students.

Though the seniors won't be experiencing the daily hassles manyU of M students face -- like finding a parking space andmaneuvering through crowds and construction-- the Saturday eventwill still provide them with an accurate depiction of campus life,Cabrere-Buggs said.

"Seniors only have so many days to be out of school for campusvisits," she said. "We have to do it on a Saturday so they don'thave to miss."
