'Fresh Eyes' seek U of M opinions

A team of Commercial Appeal staff members, including sportscolumnist Geoff Calkins, will be on campus next week surveying theopinions of students, faculty and staff.

In a project that editor Chris Peck has dubbed Fresh Eyes, TheCommercial Appeal will send a team of employees to every zip codein the eight-county Memphis metro area this summer. The Universityof Memphis has its own zip code, so the Commercial Appeal hasassigned a team just to the U of M.

The teams will spend a day at places where people gather, askingquestions about their communities, what's important in their livesand how the newspaper can better serve them. The CA team is likelyto visit the Tiger Den, the library and the University Center.

Starting in September, The Commercial Appeal will publish ashort story about each visit and a profile of someone interestingthey meet.

The following questions, which will be asked while the teams areon campus, can also be answered on The Daily Helmsman website,www.dailyhelmsman.com.

1)What are you most passionate about in your life today?

2)Do you follow the news? What is news? What would help youfollow it more?

3)What community are you part of?

4)How might the newspaper better cover the communities where youlive and belong?

5) What makes you mad at the media? Are you concerned about anyethical issues that you would like the media to address orcorrect?

6) When you read The Commercial Appeal or Helmsman (print oronline), what sections do you turn to most often?
