U of M golfer leads pack at conference championship

DADE CITY, FL -- The University of Memphis Women's Golf teamfell one spot to sixth place at the Conference USA Women's GolfChampionships at Lake Jovita Golf & Country Club Tuesday insecond round action.

Marianne Ruud continued her great play and now leads the fieldin individual competition. Should Ruud hold on and win thetournament tomorrow, she will be the first Lady Tiger to win aconference tournament since Megan Francella won the C-USA tourneyin 2001. Kim Hunt also won the tournament for Memphis in 1997.

The Lady Tigers shot a 324 (36-over) as a team in round twogiving them a 636 (60-ver) score heading into the final round.Memphis needed to cut a few strokes off its score to jump intocontention, but instead added a few strokes and now sits 26 shotsbehind leader TCU.

South Florida made up the three shots it stood behind TCU todayand heads into Wednesday's final round tied for first with theHorned Frogs at 610. East Carolina is in third place, six shotsbehind the leaders in the nine-team field.

USF's Jill Crowe shot a 72, just the second score of par in theentire field through the first 36 holes, to join a four-way tieatop the individual leaderboard at 150. Crowe is joined by D'RaeWard (TCU), Marianne Ruud (Memphis) and Margaret Mitchell (EastCarolina).

The nine teams play the final round on Wednesday with tee timestarting at 7:45 a.m. EDT on the 6,105-yard tract.
