The University of Memphis men's golf team took a major step forfuture success when Lewis Clarke, a stellar prep golfer fromExeter, Devon, England, signed a National-Letter-of-Intent with theTigers and became the first signee under new head coach GrantRobbins.
Clarke, who was familiar with The U of M through Lady Tigergolfer Abby More, carries a 0.3 handicap in Britain and serves asthe captain of his Devon County team. He won the Devon CountyJunior Open with a score of 67 and the junior club championship atExeter Country Club with a round of 69.
Last summer he participated in the British Boys Championship atCarnoustie and defeated the Scottish International player in thefirst round and beat the German National player in the secondround. Clarke won the Exeter Merit of Order this year with roundsof 70, 68, 66 and 67 and finished third in the SouthwestChampionships.
He is an honor studentwho received the Bronze certificate in theUK Mathematical Challenge.
