Late homer puts Raiders away, Memphis wins 6-2

The Memphis Tigers tripled up the Middle Tennessee Blue Raidersin Murfreesboro, Tenn. 6-2 Tuesday night.

The Tigers used six hits to win the opener of a two game seriesagainst the Blue Raiders in the cold and wet conditions of ReeseSmith Field.

Six Memphis players registered a hit in the contest. InfieldersMichael Lewis, Kyle Scott, Brent Dlugach and Kyle Sledd all hadhits. Outfielders Ryan Martin and Jordan Hart chipped in withhits.

With Memphis leading 3-2 in the eight inning, Dlugach creamed athree run homer to put the game away.

Sledd's hit was a single that drove in a run in the secondinning to give Memphis a 2-1 lead. The two runs scored in thesecond gave Memphis its first lead after Middle Tennessee jumpedout to a 1-0 in the first inning.

The Blue Raiders tied the game in the bottom half of the second.From the fourth inning until Dlugach's home run, the Tigers held anarrow 3-2 lead.

Sophomore right hand pitcher Bill Edwards (3-5) picked up thevictory. The save was earned by Brandon Rowan, his second. The losswent to freshman Blue Raider B.J. Church (1-1).

Church worked seven innings , allowing six runs on five hits.Church walked three Tigers and struck out three.

Edwards and the Tigers bullpen allowed six hits and struck outnine Blue Raiders.

The Memphis pitchers ended the 11 game hitting streak of JeffBeachum and the seven game streak of Brett Carroll.

The same two teams play again today in Murfreesboro. The firstpitch is schedule for 3 p.m.
