University of Memphis students who have excelled in academics,leadership and service will be honored at the annual President'sHonors Assembly Sunday.
"The honors assembly is an annual event to recognize academicscholarship," said Marion Emslie, executive assistant to the vicepresident of Student Affairs.
The annual assembly will be held in the Michael D. Rose Theatreat 3 p.m. It is sponsored by the Office of Student Affairs and isopen to the public.
The major purpose of the assembly is to honor those students whohave performed in an exceptional way, said U of M Provost RalphFaudree.
Between 130 to 150 undergraduates and graduates will receive 100awards given by various departments.
Faudree said each department has their own award with their owncriteria.
Roshunda Williams, a graduating senior, will receive an awardfor the highest grade point average in the Lowenburg School ofNursing.
"I feel it's an honor to receive recognition of how hard I'veworked," Williams said.
The Military Science Department will award The U of MPresident's Award to the most outstanding senior in ROTC.
"We want the other cadets to look up to the senior receiving theaward and aspire to make the same or even greater contributions,"said Master Sgt. Nelson Burnside, a senior ROTC instructor.
Some of the award categories include seniors with the highestGPA, the most exceptional student in his or her major, bestdoctoral thesis and scholarships.
Some awards are based solely on GPA, while a selection committeeawards others.
U of M President Shirley Raines will give remarks and areception will be held afterwards.
