University of Memphis residents will have the opportunity to gamble the night away tonight in Richardson Towers.
The Residence Hall Association (RHA) is sponsoring Casino Night for University students in the Richardson Towers game room at 7 p.m.
Students presenting their IDs will be able to play games like craps, blackjack, roulette and poker with fake money distributed by RHA members.
Sophomore CoCoa Simmons said because she cannot go to a real casino, the next best thing is going to Casino Night.
“I am underage, so I will enjoy my time at The U of M Casino Night,” she said.
April Foxx, vice president of RHA said students will be able to buy prizes with the fake money they win.
“We will hand out $1,500 of fake money to the students,” Foxx said. “Then they will be able to use the money left over to buy things that at the auction.”
The auction will allow students to buy prizes from sponsors including Memphis Redbirds, Tiger Bookstore, Liberty Land, Sam’s Town Casino, Garibaldi’s Pizza, McDonald’s, Muvico Theatres, Blockbuster Video, Fitzgerald Casino, Fantastic Sam’s, Turtle’s Music, Malco Theatres, Davis Kidd Booksellers, Horseshoe Casino and Mister Hats.
There will also be a variety of food served at the event.
“There will be great food like hot wings, pizza, hamburgers, sodas, cookies and different fruit,” Foxx said.
Last year, the game room was filled with students who enjoyed participating in Casino Night.
Sophomore Carmanise London said she hopes Casino Night will be like last year or better.
“Casino Night was fun last year, and I didn’t even win any prizes,” London said. “But hopefully I’ll win something this time when I go.”
Sophomore Nathaniel Flemmings said he feels lucky and cannot wait for the fun event.
“I went last year and enjoyed myself,” Flemmings said. “This year I am going so I can win enough money to get good prizes.” Foxx said she is also optimistic about the event.
“Last year was great,” Foxx said. “With any luck tonight will be even better.”
