U of M Ambassador Board searches for new members

If the last time you played in mud was in the first grade, don’t feel bad. The Student Ambassador Board is looking for members who are willing to get dirty.

The SAB sponsors Mud Ball, annual volleyball tournaments in the mud, and participates in Campus Day and Junior Preview Day for high school seniors.

The SAB is now accepting applications from students interested in telling graduating high school seniors about The U of M and establishing different programs to make them aware of the campus and its abilities.

The organization participates in other events that contribute to The University’s commencement ceremonies.

All proceeds from the Mud Ball benefit the J. Wayne Johnson Memorial Scholarship.

Johnson, the first Tiger mascot, was killed in a helicopter accident in 1967.

The scholarship is named in his honor and awarded to graduating seniors.

The SAB serves as the official student representative for The U of M.

“The organization has an association with The U of M’s administration, alumni, current student body, prospective students and the Memphis community to update and help those who are interested in joining The U of M population,” Executive Vice President Alvin G. Bonds II said.

Bonds said those who want to become ambassadors must apply for membership, have completed 25 semester hours by fall semester and have at least a 2.5 GPA.

Bonds said the SAB is looking for members who are responsible, faithful and willing to serve The U of M.

“We want people in this organization who sincerely love The U of M and want to notify graduating high school seniors about The U of M,” Bonds said. “They also should have leadership skills as well as good academic standing.”

Applications must be turned in to room 205 of the Billy Mac Jones Building, 633 Normal St., by 4:30 p.m. March 18 with two letters of recommendation March 18.

SAB will contact applicants by March 20.
