Baseball
In game one of the three-game Green Wave series, the Tigers(6-14, 1-5 in C-USA) were dominated by C-USA preseason Player ofthe Year Michael Aubrey.
The Tulane power hitter crushed two home runs and drove in threeruns with his 4 of 4 effort in the 9-3 Green Wave victory.
Day two, the Tigers saw more of the same. Aubrey continued hishot play going 3 of 4 from the plate.
Aubrey contributed to the 16-hit exhibition of Tulane in the12-3 win.
Memphis had a good showing from Chad House and Kevin House. ChadHouse went 2 of 5 and scored two runs. Kevin House got three hitsin his four at bats while scoring a run.
The final game of the series on Sunday saw the Tigersblanked.
Kevin House did manage to extend his hitting streak to fourgames.
Tigers Josh Payne, Michael Lewis and Jordan Hart all had hits inthe 4-0 loss.
The Green Wave (19-6, 4-2 in C-USA) scored all of the runs inthe bottom of the fifth.
With the sweep, Tulane is in fourth place in the C-USA standingswhile the Tigers are in the 11th spot.
Men's Tennis
The tennis squad entered the weekend looking to build on a .500record.
Memphis took on the Troy State Trojans Friday. The Tigersdefeated the Trojans 4-2 by earning the doubles point withvictories from the pairs Ben Stapp/Lee Taylor Walker and JoeSchmulian/Alex Bucewicz.
Schmulian and Bucewicz picked up an individual point in thesingles competition. Freshmen Brendan Malarkey and Alex Jago closedout the match with wins over Trojans Emir Basic and ClaytonLanghelm respectively.
Memphis moved two games over .500 after a 6-1 win over No. 67Georgia State Panthers on Saturday.
The Tigers started off slowly losing the doubles point. Stappand Walker were the only Tigers to win a match in the doublescompetition.
Memphis came back and took the match with a sweep in the singlesevent.
The Tigers (9-6, 2-1 in C-USA) finished the weekend with a 4-3win over the No. 61 Middle Tennessee State Blue Raiders.
Although Memphis lost the doubles point, the heart of the Tigerlineup delivered with four points in the singles competition to winthe match.
The points from Schmulian, Stapp, Bucewicz and Malarkey helpedextended the Tigers winning streak to four games.
Women's Tennis
The Lady Tigers beat the conference foe Saint Louis LadyBillikens 5-2 on Friday.
All three Memphis doubles teams won to earn the point. LadyTigers Monica Gonzalez-Gordo, Viktoria Gruber, Marlene Dirnstroferand Andrea Feichtinger won their singles matches to close out theLady Billikens.
On Saturday, the Lady Tigers pulled double duty with a matchversus the SIU-Carbondale Lady Salukis in the morning and anafternoon affair with the Troy State Lady Trojans.
Memphis took the early matchup 6-1. The Lady Tigers swept thedouble matches and won 5 of 6 singles matches to dominateSIU-Carbondale.
Memphis (12-5, 3-1 in C-USA) returned to the court to defeat theLady Trojans 6-1, giving the Lady Tigers their fourth straightvictory.
Men's Golf
The Tigers traveled to Greenville, S.C. to compete in the FurmanIntercollegiate Golf Tournament this weekend.
Memphis finished in 10th place, shooting a 896, good enough for32 over par.
The Virginia Tech Hokies took the tournament with a 869 score,five over par. The individual champion also came from the Hokies'camp. Chris McKeel shot a five under par to claim the title by twostrokes.
The top performer for the Tigers was Alan Weant with a two overpar for the three rounds. David Jeans and Michael Prieur also hadsolid showings with an eight over and nine over parrespectively.
Women's Track and Field
The women's track team competed at the Baldy CastilloInvitational hosted by the University of Arizona State in Tempe,Ariz.
Lady Tiger sprinter Keenan Gibson roared to a victory in the200m dash with a time of 24.02 and a second place finish in the100m with a time of 11.99.
Lady Tiger Josetta Brooks was the runner up in the 110m hurdleswith a time of 14.77.
C-USA triple jump indoor champion Lisa-Marie Hyman placed ninthin the long jump.
Victoria Crawford, who competed on the track for the first timethis year, finished third in the triple jump.
