Tiger soccer team signs new goalie

The University of Memphis head soccer coach Richie Grant hasreleased the signing of Brentwood Academy goalkeeper Tyler Trew.The Franklin, Tenn. native is the third signee for the Tigerssoccer squad this spring.

Trew brings a host of credentials as he embarks upon his careerin the blue and gray. He was a four-year starter on the varsityteam at Brentwood Academy, while helping lead his team to arunner-up finish in the 2002 state playoffs, and earning All-stateDivision II and first team All-middle district Division II honorsas a junior. He also received All-middle district recognition hisfreshman and sophomore seasons.

"Tyler strengthens us at the goalkeeper position," said Grant."We feel that he can push for a starting position right away. Hehas the ability to be a very good goalkeeper. He distributes theball well and is an excellent shot stopper."

The six-foot keeper also produced solid club performances, mostrecently for the Tennessee Futbol Club. As the starting netminder,he collected four straight shutouts to lead TNFC to the 2000Tennessee State U-15 championship. He then helped lead TNFC to aTennessee State runner-up finish in 2001.

Off the field Trew maintained a 3.69 g.p.a. and was a member ofthe Headmasters List, honor roll, National Honor Society, Mu AlphaTheta and the Tennessee Youth Legislature.
