Rifle Squad claims first All-American

University of Memphis freshman Beth Tidmore was named an All-American in the air rifle division by the Collegiate Rifle Coaches Association. The Decatur, Ga., native is one of just four freshmen in the country to receive All-American honors following the 2002-03 season.

Tidmore led the Tigers and finished the year with a 387.36 shooting mark. She is Memphis’ first-ever rifle All-American in the 11-year history of the program, and joins A. Celeste Green from TCU as the only Conference USA shooters honored. Green was honored as an All-American in the smallbore rifle division. The Tigers finished the year ranked 25th in the nation.

Tidmore and sophomore J.B. Vaughan were also named to the All-Academic Team by the CRCA for posting grade point averages above 3.2. Vaughan is a native of Somerville, Tenn.

Tidmore, who was also the team’s captain this year, will leave next Friday to compete in the Junior Olympics rifle competition at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs.
