Rocawear, Phat Farm, Ecko, Baby Phat, Sean John, Jessica McClintock, Polo and Fubu are just a few of the brands student models will strut down the runway at the Spring Bling Fashion Show tonight.
The annual fashion show, sponsored by the Black Student Association, will be held at 7 p.m. in the University Center Ballroom.
The theme of this year’s show is “An Ode to Urban Fashion.”
“We wanted a hip-hop theme, complete with hip-hop flavor,” said BSA Public Relations Official Chinello Eze.
Last semester students complained that the clothes modeled didn’t display enough skin and were not up-to-date, said BSA Vice President Levonna Davis. However, this year students can expect a lot more.
“Students can expect something new this semester,” Davis said. “It’s fun entertainment with live music.”
In the past, the fashion show consisted of eveningwear, casual, and intimate apparel. This year, there will be three segments of the show — urban wear, swimsuit, and eveningwear, Davis said.
“Last semester’s show didn’t turn out as well as we wanted because we didn’t publicize enough, but we’ve sold a lot of tickets for this show,” he added.
This will be the first semester swimwear will be shown, but the swimsuit segment will be “tasteful and stylish,” Davis said. Students can also expect to see a lot of the fashion in hip-hop videos at the fashion show.
Business administration major and fashion show model Denardo Jenkins said the show is important because many students are into fashion and seeing the clothes will give other students an idea of what’s in and out this season.
Jenkins added that the show is not just hip-hop, but most people relate urban with hip-hop.
“All students should come, enjoy, and show respect for others’ style,” Jenkins said.
Students can expect a performance from hip-hop artist Profit Wrage and the Ebin, the BSA dance team.
The show is $7 in advance and $8 at the door. All students are encouraged to attend.
