A University of Memphis student was struck by oncoming traffic in front of The Kemmons Wilson School of Hospitality around 5:45 Monday night.
Witnesses said the student was crossing Central Avenue when struck by two vehicles: one traveling toward Patterson and the other heading toward Zach Curlin.
Police officials would not release the victim’s name, but confirmed that it was a hit-and-run accident.
“We have eyewitnesses of the accident, but it is still under investigation,” said U of M police officer Sgt. Auddis Ward.
Hunter McClure, sophomore business finance major, said the victim was wearing dark clothing, which made her hard to see.
“I noticed her walking on the sidewalk,” McClure said. “She was wearing all black and I thought to myself, ‘She is going to get hit.’”
Police officials said the student was coherent and she was transported to the Regional Medical Center at Memphis where her condition was upgraded to non-critical.
Monday night, police officials were looking for a male driving an older model silver Honda Accord.
