Britton Banowsky, 42, was officially named Conference USA commissioner Monday afternoon.
James Woodward, Chair of the Board of Directors, announced Banowsky’s hiring as the league’s second commissioner.
Banowsky has agreed to a multi-year contract to head up the league. The specifics of the contract have not been released.
Banowsky still has some obligations to the Big 12 Conference, where he served as associate commissioner, and will not be able to take over fulltime until Dec. 1.
Banowsky said he was eager to get started on continuing the growth of C-USA.
“I am truly pleased to have the opportunity to serve the members of Conference USA,” Banowsky said. “The conference is clearly committed to excellence in all of its activities and has a very bright future. I look forward to meeting with coaches and administrators and getting started.”
Woodward said Banowsky’s previous experience in a large conference would be beneficial to C-USA.
“I think Britton is the ideal person to have as the second commissioner of Conference USA,” Woodward said. “His experiences have prepared him well to provide leadership for the continuing development of our conference.”
Before serving in the Big 12 Conference, Banowsky was the commissioner of the Southland Conference for two years.
