The Lady Tigers soccer team is looking to get back on track after a couple of tough road losses this weekend.
Memphis (4-4-1, 1-3-0 in Conference USA) dropped games against Louisville and 17th-ranked Charlotte.
Head coach Brooks Monaghan said the young squad should learn from their losses and grab an elusive road victory when they play at UT-Martin 6-3-2 Friday.
“We’re just trying to learn from our mistakes and move forward,” Monaghan said. “UT-Martin is an important game for us to get back on track.”
The team has seven new players and learning the system seems to be their biggest hurdle.
Monaghan said he wants the Tigers to remain focused and leave Martin with a win instead of dwelling on the tough losses.
“You always want to learn something from your mistakes and losses,” he said. “You still try to put those behind you and move forward.”
UT-Martin is a resurging team and should provide an interesting match for the Tigers according to Monaghan.
“Martin is an up and coming program that’s having a good year,” he said. “They will be a definite test.”
Just three days after UT-Martin, Memphis will take the field against Southeast Missouri State 6-3-1.
SEMSU played tough for 90 minutes against Memphis this spring. The Tigers won 1-0 despite the competition. Monaghan expects the same hard effort from Southeast Missouri Monday.
“SEMSU is a very strong team that we saw this spring,” he said. “They are a very organized team and they got some things going for them this semester.”
