Two basketball coaches who battled each other on the court, both spent parts of last week battling for their lives.
Former University of Memphis head basketball coach Larry Finch suffered a heart attack Sept. 24. Finch remains in stable condition at Saint Francis Hospital.
Marilynn S. Robinson, Senior Vice-President of Marketing and Government Relations for Saint Francis said, “Coach Finch is in quite stable condition.”
Finch’s family was not available for comment, Robinson said.
University of Cincinnati head coach Bob Huggins also suffered a heart attack last week.
Huggins’ heart attack came Saturday while in Pittsburgh. Huggins was taken to the Beaver Medical Center outside Pittsburgh.
Huggins is still in the hospital in stable condition, said Tom Hathaway, UC associate athletic director in charge of media relations. Hospital officials expect Higgins to remain in the hospital for four or five more days, then return to Cincinnati.
Huggins has coached at UC for 13 years and is second in victories among active coaches in the NCAA with a 500-172 record in 21 seasons. His Bearcat teams have played in post-season tournaments including one Final Four when they defeated Finch’s Tigers.
