Eyes and Ears of Campus

You see it, you hear it, so let’s talk about it. This semester I’ll be discussing what’s seen and heard on campus and you can too. I saw this the first week of class maybe you did too.

I attended one of the most interesting and varied fashion shows last week. I saw casual wear, club wear, semi-formal wear, and lounge wear. The jewelry, accessories, shoes, and hairstyles were amazing. The best part though was that I didn’t have to leave campus for any of it, I just looked in classrooms and in front of buildings.

Lately, I’ve wondered why we still have fashion classes. Teachers could just plop students in front of the UC and give notes. I mean it’s a virtual catwalk.

Some outfits had me wondering whether my classmates were going to a club after class or whether they just hadn’t had a chance to change from the night before.

I just don’t understand how someone can walk around campus in 6-inch heels. I mean does the elevation of the heel help push blood to the brain so it can work harder. If it does, tell me and I will invest in some heels.

I decided to give the heel thing a try, but I don’t know about you, but when you have a class in the theater building, then in Patterson and then back to the theater building, all you want to do is pull off those heels and throw them in the nearest trash can.

I don’t think any feet deserve that kind of torture; I don’t care how cute you look, or how cute you think you look. Why would you want to go through that?

Guys, don’t think this is just at the sisters, ya’ll are just as bad. I felt like I had stepped on the cover of GQ or into some BET or MTV music video. From the matching pants, to the shoes, to the shirt, to the hat and then the sunglasses, you had me wondering if there were modeling scouts on campus that I hadn’t heard about.

For those of you who must and do create the fashion scene, I hope your education gets as much attention.

That’s all from my eyes and ears. If you see or hear something that interests you, annoys you, or is just plain weird, e-mail me at jrward1@memphis.edu.
