Tiger Clubs raise record donations

The University of Memphis Tiger Clubs office announced Tuesday it recorded an all-time record of $4,470,838.82 in cash donations during the 2001-02 fiscal year.

“I have always said that we would like to eventually top the $5 million mark in cash donations,” athletic director R.C. Johnson said. “As long as we can continue to provide the type programs, athletes and staff members that relate to our fans, I believe that our goal is achievable.”

The athletic department also received about $1.3 million in gift-in-kind donations to bring the total tally to $5.77 million.

“This is indeed a tribute to our supporters in the community, to the Tiger Clubs Board of Directors and to the members of the Tiger Clubs staff — Kevin Grothe, Scott Rabenold, Darian Westerfield, Melissa Moore and Connie Diffee,” Johnson said. “We had set a budget goal over $4 million for the Tiger Clubs to shoot for and we weren’t sure that we would reach that mark.”
