University of Memphis Police Services will host a public safety forum Tuesday to raise awareness of safety issues on and around The U of M campus. The event will include a presentation of safety statistics from January through June of 2002 and a comparison to last year’s statistics.
Overall, crimes on campus have decreased by 27 percent this year, according to director of public safety Bruce Harber.
“At this time last year, there had been 11 auto thefts on campus, and this year there have only been two,” Harber said. “Another example is car break-ins, which were at 45 this time last year. To date, there have only been 23. That’s 23 too many, but it’s much better than before.
“These meetings will give the people at The University the opportunity to get more involved in campus safety and voice their concerns. We’ll be able to get feedback about what people see as safety issues.”
The forum, which will be held at the WKNO studio on South Campus from 4 to 5 p.m., will also include a question-and-answer session.
The forum is open to all students, faculty and staff.
