They’re back in black and part of a media attack.
It’s a shame the movie doesn’t live up to the hype, or the taste of the burger, or the action figures or whatever else will come out of this multi-million dollar frenzy.
Just because the Jackson 5 was a crowd favorite years ago doesn’t mean a present-day tour will sell out nationwide.
On that same note, maybe Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones should have ventured off into a drama/action movie instead of this one.
We find our hero agent Jay (Will Smith) looking for more than just a pat on the back for saving the world and becoming so dissatisfied with his job that he neuraluizes partners at will.
As fate would have it, an alien, Serleena (Lara Flynn Boyle), comes to destroy the earth once again, forcing Jay to seek the help of his former MIB partner and now post office worker, agent Kay, (Tommy Lee Jones), who has no idea of his alien-fighting past.
To make a long story short, MIB should have stayed in someone’s mind. A story that’s been done, redone and done again, will never get better, no matter who you put in the starring role.
Plainly put, this short and very predictable film was amusing, but reminded me of a present-day Odd Couple with dress suits, strange characters and a lot of guns.
It’s almost as if the movie begins and the audience is quickly neuralized. The next thing you know, it’s over and you’re wondering why in the galaxy you were there.
There are a few perks to this movie. Rosario Dawson does a pretty good job looking pretty.
The worm-guys seem to have a little more life, the guns are bigger, the vehicle is faster and the special effects give the film a bit more WOW. But overall it lacks tremendously.
So what’s good about this movie?
A pug agent named Frank (Agent F) who dons a cute, little MIB suit with tie and sings a hell of a rendition of “I Will Survive.”
If you have seen the trailers and are wondering if it gets any better — it doesn’t.
