Crikey!

Crikey!

Be very careful, because Crocodile Hunter: Collision Course could be the most dangerously entertaining family film of the summer.

This extended version of Steve Irwin’s television show Croc Hunter doesn’t have a lot of special effects. You won’t see mega-buck movie stars, and the chance of an Oscar is very slim.

But that doesn’t stop the film from being good.

When a space satellite falls to North Queensland, Australia, it sends a number of government agents looking for it. It just so happens that the satellite is lodged inside a 12-foot crocodile.

You throw in an angry shotgun-carrying outback-widow, the crocodile hunter Stevo and fellow conservationist wife Terri, who believe the agents are animal poachers, and you have got yourself one heck of a crocodile-mile.

What makes the film work and family-oriented is its conservationist theme, giving the audience more of a lesson about “nature’s way” and how animals help the ecosystem, rather than showing the more frightening side of wild animals many of us normally see.

Among Steve’s family of animals he deals with are snakes, spiders, a baby-kangaroo and, of course, a crocodile.

A bit campy, the movie gives us a deeper insight into Irwin’s passion for animals and animal conservation.

But what’s most interesting about the film is that the stunts are real, much like Irwin’s show, and there’s “danger, danger, danger” everywhere you go.

I wouldn’t suggest you try any of Irwin’s stunts at home, but if you’re a nature person and love the thrill of excitement, then The Crocodile Hunter: Collison Course is a must-see.
