Warner Brothers will have plenty of money for Scoobysnacks and foot-long sub sandwiches after winning out this past weekend at the box-office with a $56-million plus opening with Scooby-Doo.
The long awaited adaptation of Hanna Barbera’s famous pooch combines real actors and CGI animation for Scooby Doo.
The movie includes an A-List cast of current teen movie phenoms including Freddie Prinze Jr. portraying the dashing and self-absorbed ascot-wearing Fred, Sarah Michelle Gellar as Daphne, Linda Cardellini as the crime solving Velma and Matthew Lillard as the beatnick Shaggy. Scott Innes serves as the voice of Scooby Doo along with Isla Fisher as Mary Jane, Shaggy’s love interest and Rowan Atkinson as Emile Mondavarious.
We find the gang once again at the height of their crime fighting antics with Daphne being captured (as usual), and Fred taking much of the credit for solving the crime.
But with one wag of the tail, fates change and the group splits.
A two-year hiatus finds our investigators drawn together for one more case at Spooky Island, owned by Mondavarious. It seems vacationers arrive at the island resort as normal teenagers and leave possessed.
After solo efforts fail, the gang comes together to once again prove that “there is no such thing as ghosts,” and they solve another major mystery.
Highlights of the movie include little Scrappy Doo and his antics, a Matrix inspired martial arts scene featuring Gellar, a performance by recording group Sugar Ray and a soundtrack better than a Scoobysnack. The movie includes a simplistic, children-oriented story line created for the young at heart and true Doo fans.
It’s worth the money with plenty of laughs and mystery for all to enjoy.
